Ah, what fun. Sonic the Hedgehog 4 has just been recently unveiled by SEGA as Sonic's next
adventure. It is to be a Download-Only 2D sidescroller, with 3D graphics, featuring the classic gameplay that had brought the series its initial popularity
from back in the day. Not too much else is really known about this title, short of a few key elements;
1. Sonic is the sole playable character in the game, and will sport the Homing Attack in addition to his jump and Spin Dash.
2. There are no new characters in Sonic 4, playable or otherwise.
3. Given the information above, it should be quite clear that Dr. Eggman is most definitely the sole villain in the game!
4. The series is to be, surprisingly, in episodic format, described by Sega to be viewed in the same manner that Sonic 3 & Knuckles had been.
5. And, on that note, the plot of this game is supposed to take place right after the events of Sonic & Knuckles, given Sonic's bio on the game's English website.
6. Classic badniks are to make a return, examples being Motobug, Shellcracker, and (indicated by the trailer) Batbot.
7. The game is to be downloaded onto consoles via PlayStation Network, Xbox LIVE, WiiWare, and, oddly enough, iPhone.
There isn't too much more to really go off of that's solely Eggman-related, though the spinny signs appear to be making a return, and Eggman himself can be seen in the trailer for the game,
floating overhead briefly before zooming away.
As more details are unveiled, this page will be updated. Sonic the Hedgehog 4, Episode 1, is scheduled for a July 2010 release.
For now, you can see the trailer here.
