Sonic the Hedgehog

Ah, welcome! This is the first of the "Eggman's Game Reviews" series! This isn't to be confused with Ishnt's "Game Info." section, mind you. This right here is my personal opinion of the games! Now, today I'm going to review Sonic the Hedgehog, my first role as villain of the series, as it was the first game!

STORY - 5/10: Ah, the beggening. This was where I hatched my first scheme- Use my animal-powered robots, the Badniks, to take over the world! Simple plan, eh? But sometimes, simple is best! I figured my robot army could overrun the planet, granting me rulership! Unfortunately, it wasn't so easy. Sonic the Hedgehog, that meddling rodent, showed up and stopped me!

GAMEPLAY - 6/10: You played as Sonic in this game, obviously. Well, I'd say the controlls are that of a standard platformer. You can run, jump, and...not much else. There were 6 zones, each with three Acts, plus a one-act Final Zone. In the first 6 zones, I would always show up at the end of the third Act to battle Sonic! This tradition would become a staple(sort of) in the series. Also, the Special Stage, another series staple, was introduced here. Completing the stage would get a Chaos Emerald. That sums up Sonic 1's gameplay well enough.

SOUND - 8/10: Sonic 1's music, composed by the J-Pop band, Dreams Come True, was a very catchy collection of addictive tunes. It still retains some of the best music in the series.

GRAPHICS - 7/10: Sure, a bit outdated by today's standards, but for 1991, I'd say they did a pretty nice job.

REPLAY VALUE - 5/10: This game's good to play every once in awhile, but after awhile, it does to become a bit boring. Mainly because the game's so straightforward. Beat the game, save the world from my robots, done. Still, it's definetely a fun game to play.

AMOUNT OF EGGMAN - 8/10: I'd say I had a fair role in this one. As it was my first appearance and the story DID focus solely on me and my evil plot.

OVERALL - 7/10: This game's got a lot to offer. I'd definetely reccomend getting it if you haven't already. Seeing as how it IS my debut, it's no wonder the game went over so well!

CHANGES FROM JAPAN TO AMERICA: Well, first things first, my name was changed from Dr.Eggman to "Dr.Ivo Robotnik." Yeah, those people at SoA changed my idenity! *shrug* Oh well. Another big change was the names of my Badniks! Each one of them got a new name in the translation. An interesting note is that SoA did not yet use the name "Mobius" in this game. The first manual I recall them using that in was Sonic 3's. Here they simply referred to it as "the world", just like the original Japanese manual did. Also, the game was first released in America. So by the time the Japanese version was released, they had fixed a bug where you could die very easily by spikes, and they added scrolling effects to the sky in Green Hill Zone, and ripple effects to Labyrinth Zone!

Yeah, the review's over. Go away! Muahaha!
