Chapter One

The sun shone brightly on the beach as Amy sat lounging. A short distance
away, Cream the rabbit and her Chao, Cheese were playing in the sand. Amy had
been chasing down Sonic but lost the speedy blue hedgehog at the beach. She’d
found Cream there already enjoying the area. As the wielder of the Piko-Piko
hammer sat and tried to think of how she’d catch Sonic, a round shadow
passed overhead.
“Chao, Chao!” Cheese’s cry alerted his friend who looked up at
the sky. Eggman’s hover-pod floated overhead and towards a cliff overlooking
the sea.
“Amy! Look!” Cream exclaimed, getting to her feet and hopping over
to Amy’s side. Amy looked up at the Egg-Pod and her eyes narrowed.
“If I can catch Eggman then Sonic’ll really like me! Let’s go!”
the pink hedgehog yelled as she jumped off her chair and ran after the Egg-Pod.
Cream and Cheese looked at one another and then shrugged. They then ran after
their friend.
“Amy! Wait for us!”
“Chao!”
**Atop the Cliff**
The Egg-Pod landed softly and its rider jumped out. Judging solely by the
black boots, one would believe that it was Dr. Eggman, the world’s greatest
genius. That would be incorrect. Continuing up the body of the pilot, it would
be seen that while their clothes were an exact replica of the doctor’s…this
person was much slimmer. The person face was young, lacking the doctor’s
mustache. Spiky brown hair topped the person’s head as well as a pair of
goggles. At only ye age of 16, our pilot went by the name of Edwin.
The boy had been living with his distant uncle who was rarely conscious enough
to notice his existence. His real parents dead due to sickness, the boy turned
to his studies and nurturing his exception intellect. It was during his studies
2 years ago that he came across information regarding the great Dr. Eggman.
Reading of the doctor’s escapades drove him to turn all his mental powers
towards robotic. He’d become quite adept at creating robots but never considered
himself anywhere near as good as his idol. One night he decided it was time
to leave his old life behind and set out to join the doctor in his quest to
rule the world.
One gas explosion later and he was off, self-made Eggman outfit on his back
and modified motorbike as his transportation. His searches were fruitless though,
leading him to little more than an abandoned base. It was there that he formulated
a plan. Using the abandoned technology, he created a small robotic army for
himself and even rebuilt the base. If he couldn’t find Eggman…he’d
bring the doctor to him. His first objective…find the Chaos Emeralds. One
had been found…
Edwin took a few steps and picked up a dusty blue Chaos Emerald. He held it
up to the sky and laughed.
“The first step in my plans…it begins with this…A Chaos Emerald! Bwahahahahahahahahaha!”
As the boy stood laughing, sunlight causing the emerald to spread blue light
around, the pink hedgehog ran up the path that lead up the cliff. She took a
moment to catch her breath before yelling, “Hold it right there, Eggman!”
Edwin turned around and a sinister smile spread across his face. He took a step
forward so the glare would not hide his face.
“What? You’re not Eggman…Who are you?” Amy asked, shocked. A short moment later, Cream and Cheese caught up and were puzzled by this newcomer.
Edwin quickly ran to and hopped into his hover-pod. Lifting off he laughed,
“Hahahaha! My name is Edwin. Now prepare to die! Get them!”
The young genius pressed a button in his vehicle and several robots teleported
in. They were Eggman’s robots with only two small differences. Their paintjob
had been changed to blue and a bolded silver E emblem was on each of them. The
robots raised their weapons and attacked, some opening fire and others rushing
forward.
**G.U.N Base **
“Security Alert! Security Alert! A Test Subject has escaped! All Units,
apprehend the subject! I repeat, A Test Subject has escaped! All Units, apprehend
the subject!” cried the computerized voice over the intercom system as
robots and humans alike scrambled to catch up with their prey. A pair of red
shoed feet quickly padded down the metal hall. Clutched tightly in a white-gloved
hand was a Chaos Emerald. These feet and hands belonged to a fox as gray as
a storm cloud. While he only had one tail, he had a red bandana around his neck.
The fox came to a fork in the path and his little green eyes shot back and forth
as he tried to decide which direction to go.
A quick glance over his shoulder told him to hurry up and he continued his run
down the left hall. Thinks started to look bad for him as a dead end drew closer
but the fox didn’t seem worried. He jumped towards the wall and vanished
in a flash of red light, appearing right outside the building and falling into
the jungle below.
Back inside, the guards reached the wall and a few kicked it out of disbelief.
One of the guards lifted his walkie-talkie and, “ Project Mirage has escaped,
over.”
**Jungle Area**
The fox known as ‘Project Mirage’ crashed through a few branches before he managed to gain his balance and landed on one. Jumping off of it and onto the round below, Mirage looked around. It was his first time ever outside the GUN base and he was excited. Walking along and looking at all the scenery around him caused him to not notice the bat he walked into. He fell back and then looked up at who he had hit…
“Hey! Watch where you’re going, kid” complained the treasure hunter known as Rouge the Bat. Mirage blinked a few times at her and she raised an eyebrow.
“Oh…uhh….sorry.” the fox was barely audible. He got up and was about to continue on his way when Rouge grabbed him and pulled him back.
“Where do you think you’re going? Go out there and you’ll blow
my cover!” she hissed.
“Wha?” Mirage was a bit confused. Rouge sighed and pushed some leaves
aside and revealed a massive alter leading up to the biggest emerald Mirage
had ever seen, the Master Emerald, and its guardian was nowhere in sight.
“Hey…that looks kinda like the emerald I have.” Mirage said as he held up his Chaos Emerald. Rouge did a double take, “You’ve got a Chaos Emerald? Who are you?”
“Uhh…Mirage….Mirage is my name,” the fox replied.
“Well, Mirage…I’m Rouge the Bat, but you can call me Rouge.” She said winking as she finished, causing Mirage to blush. The treasure hunter continued, “ How’d you like to help me get that big emerald there?”
**GUN research lab**
An explosion rocked the building, sending loser scientists scrambling for cover. The much better, and world’s greatest scientist, Dr. Eggman marched into the building riding his Egg-Walker. The doctor had learned that the scum from GUN had salvaged some of his destroyed tech and were using it to make their own technology better. He wasn’t about to let this stand and set off to teach those GUN fools a lesson.
“Mwahahahahahahaha! Think you can steal my technology and get away with it do you? Well take this!” yelled Eggman as he opened fire on all the computers and machines around the lab. He was just beginning to enjoy himself when…
”Stop it right there, Eggman!” came an annoying voice from behind.
Eggman turned his mech and was faced with someone who annoyed him almost as
much as Sonic did…Miles “Tails” Prower. The two-tailed fox was
standing in the hole in the wall Eggman had made.
“Take this!” Eggman yelled out, firing upon Tails with his laser cannon.
The fox quickly dove out of the way and kept running. Eggman turned and opened
fire with his mech’s machine gun. The gun was close to hitting Tails, when
the two-tailed pest took to the air. The fox brought his tails down in a mid
air attack but Eggman quickly jumped to the side and delivered a kick with the
mech’s large foot.
Tails slammed into the wall and slid to the ground. He got to his feet and Eggman laughed.
“Now to finish you off…” he pressed a button and aligned the targeting computer. The front of his mech opened and its larger laser cannon slid forward. It charged and fired. Unfortunatly, Tails dodged at the last second and the laser blasted a hole into one of the building’s storage bays. Eggman was about to fire again when a glint of yellow caught his eye. A Chaos Emerald! The genius doctor grinned evilly and sent a few laser blasts at Tails before rushing forward to grab the Emerald.
“A Chaos Emerald!” Tails exclaimed when the dust cleared. “You’re
not going to get away with that, Eggman!” The fox ran forward and managed
to deliver a two-tailed smack to the front of the mech. It stumbled back, rattling
Eggman a little but once he regained stability.
“You haven’t seen the last of me, fox boy!” with that, the eggwalker released a blinding flash of light. Once it was clear, Dr. Eggman was gone.
**Cliff Area**
“Ahahahahahahahahahaha!” Edwin laughed as his robotic minions did battle. While Amy and Cream were managing to hold their own, destroying robot’s here and there, it wouldn’t be long until he claimed victory. “You’ve got no chance to win, ladies! Give up now!” the young genius exclaimed floating towards the center of the battle.
“Never!” Amy yelled smashing another robot. Edwin raised an eyebrow. He locked the targeting computer onto Amy and laughed a little as he prepared to fire his hover-pod’s lasers. Just as he was about to fire…the radar began blinking like mad.
“What the?!” Edwin exclaimed and suddenly a blue blur shot past him, spinning him around. The blur sped around the battle, robots falling in its wake. It settled and Cream gasped, Edwin slammed his fist down, and Amy jumped into the air.
“Sonic!” she yelled. She was right…Sonic the Hedgehog had shown up. The hedgehog smirked and looked at the hover-craft.
“You just don’t know when to give up, do ya Eggman?” Sonic taunted.
“Mr. Sonic…that’s not Dr. Eggman.” Cream chimed in. “Chao.” Cheese added in...
“Wha?” Sonic looked up as Edwin piloted the hovercraft up into the clouds. There was a flash of light and something began to fall. A large three-legged battle mech landed with a thud, Edwin at the controls.
“Prepare to die, hedgehog!” Edwin yelled, standing up with a dramatic pose. Everyone was silent for a few minutes before Sonic let out a laugh.
“You’re not Eggman. Run along now, kid” Sonic turned to leave but Edwin fumed with anger. He sat back down and brought one of the mech’s legs up and over Sonic.
“SONIC!” Amy and Cream yelled at the same time. Edwin slammed the mech’s leg down but Sonic was already gone. Edwin looked around quickly. Sonic was standing a jump’s distance away from the mech,
“Well…if ya wanna play…let’s go!” the hedgehog exclaimed
before running forward. Edwin flipped a switch and two laser guns activated
and extended out of the sides of the mech. The young villain opened fire but
all his shots missed.
Sonic zipped around the mech a few times before Edwin flipped another switch.
Several missles were shot into the air. They locked onto Sonic and began to
chase him. The blue pest ran away from the mech for awhile before turning to
face the missles. He smirked and jumped into the air. Using the missles as stepping
stones, Sonic jumped towards Edwin’s mech and went into spin dash mode.
He slammed right through one of the leg’s sending the mech off balance.
It was then that one of the surviving missles resumed course…heading right
for Sonic, but the mech was in the way.
KABOOM!
“Curse you, Sonic! I’ll be back!” Edwin yelled as he piloted the escape hovercraft away.
“Come back next time for another beating!” Sonic yelled after him.
**Jungle area…**
Rouge and Mirage were huddled under some brush peering up at the Master Emerald.
“Alright, Mirage. Just like we talked about. You run up there and grab the emerald. Bring it down the alter and hand it off to me. Then we run.” Rouge explained to a nodding Mirage. The fox was just happy to make a friend…atleast he thought Rouge was his friend. In reality, Mirage was just a distraction/ shield incase Knuckles showed up. “Ready…go!” Rouge said with a smile as Mirage darted forward.
He ran up the stairs as fast as he could and once he reached the top, quickly rolled around to the side of the emerald. He looked around to make sure no one was around before grabbing the Master Emerald and transforming it to its smaller size. He then ran over to the stairs as Rouge reached the bottom of them. Mirage jumped down next to her and handed her the emerald.
“Here’s your emerald back, Rouge” he said, excited. Rouge was about to say something when a hand pulled Mirage around and a fist connected with the fox’s jaw, sending him flying. Mirage caught the ground and looked up, holding back tears as he rubbed his jaw. Knuckles stood glaring at him and the echidna looked ready to fight. Mirage stood up and wiped the blood off the side of his mouth.
“What’d ya hit me for?!” Mirage yelled at Knuckles. The echidna was a little surprised.
“Uh…sorry? Wait! What am I saying?! You stole the Master Emerald! You deserved to get hit! Now give it back!” Knuckles yelled back.
“I only stole it cause you stole it from Rouge! Right, Rouge?” Mirage responded. The fox looked over to where Rouge had been only to see her running away.
“That thieving bat! GET BACK HERE!” Knuckles yelled and chased after Rouge. Mirage jumped and ran after them both.
“Rouge! Wait for me!” he yelled as he ran.
**Rail Canyon AirSpace**
Edwin’s hovercraft slowly floated towards his base. He’d rebuilt Eggman’s own Rail Canyon HQ and made it his own. The charred genius sat examining the Chaos Emerald as his craft went in for a landing.
“Only 6 more…” he said to himself as he entered the base. He landed the pod in a recharge station as the hanger doors closed behind him. Jumping out of hovercraft he walked over to a computer console and set the emerald down on a stand. Firing up the emerald search program he wiped some soot off his face and sighed.
“I need a shower…” he mumbled and walked off, leaving the computer to run its program.
**Stream**
Mirage was kneeling down next to the stream. He splashed his face with water a few times and sighed. He’d lost track of Rouge and Knuckles and had no idea where he was.
“Now what…” he mumbled. His eyes widened in shock when a shadow was cast over him. He quickly whipped around and fell back into the stream in surprise.
**Eggman’s new Flying Fortress**
Dr. Eggman set his new Chaos Emerald down into a case next to his chair and grinned.
“Just what I needed.” He laughed. “Once I have all 7 Chaos Emeralds…then no one will be able to stop me! Bwahahahahahahahaha!” He laughed and sat down in his chair. He brought a set of blue prints up on the screen and looked them over…
“Yes…with the chaos emeralds my creation will be unstoppable…then I’ll use it to destroy the meddlesome hedgehog and conquer the world!”
