Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, the first Sonic cartoon, featured Robotnik's television debut! Here's a brief synopsis of each episode, with ratings on how involved Dr. Robotnik was in each.

You took the words right out of my mouth! I hate that hedgehog! 1 - The Super Special Sonic Search and Smash Squad
This is the classic Sonic episode, featuring the origin of Scratch and Grounder. Right off the bat, this episode sets the slapsticky tone for the rest of the series. Robotnik delivers an entertaining fillabuster at the bounty-hunters convention(Filled with robots who would later appear in Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine), and shouts the very first "I HATE THAT HEDGEHOG!" in the series. But the action mainly focuses on his goon squad as they try to nab Sonic, ultimately failing. So Robotnik decides to invent a new elite force to stop that hedgehog. In perhaps the most famous scene in the show's run, he throws a bunch of random junk into the Robomatic machine, creating Scratch, who he plans to clone but- thanks the pull of an extra lever- creates Grounder instead. The new Badniks(and a jealous Coconuts) try various hairbrained schemes to catch Sonic, all of which don't work. Robotnik finally arrives to do the job himself, but crashes due to a smokescreen. Sonic and his bratty sidekick get away, but they'll be back. Sixty-five more times.

Can't you see I'm brooding?! 2 - Subterranian Sonic
This episode kicks off with a nice Robotnik monologue- It turns out his infernal nemesis has been sighted in the Marble Zone, so he sends Scratch and Grounder to dispose of him. The Badniks don't do their job properly, and Sonic gets away, only to meet a grumpy old prospecting mole, who mistakes Sonic for a thief and proceeds to attack him with a comically giant cannon. Scratch and Grounder catch up and discover the old mole's treasure. Said old mole chases Sonic and Tails around in a minecar for awhile and manage to catch the heroes, and then Robotnik and his flunkies arrive in huge drilling machines to claim the treasure for themselves! Robotnik reminds Scratch and Grounder of the value of teamwork and gets them to stop arguing about where the treasure was burried(Who says villains can't moralize?), deciding to just dig up the whole mine until they find it. Coincidentally, they start digging right above where Sonic and Tails are caged up, prompting Sonic to plea for a truce with the old prospector, who refuses. Robotnik and company decide to use dynamite, and the resulting kaboom sends gold flying everywhere. Unfortunatley, our villainous trio fall into a bottomless pit as a result of the explosion, though somehow they manage to get out. Is Robotnik great or what? They start hauling the treasure away, but Sonic and the mole team up and crash their party, stealing the treasure back, and in an unneccesarry move of overkill, blast them away with an explosion. One sappy speech about friendship later, we see that Robotnik and the SSSSS Squad had their fall broken by some geysers. And the episode just ends there.

Insert internet joke here. 3 - Lovesick Sonic
The episode begins with Scratch and Grounder chasing some random female hedgehog through an open field. They catch her, and begin an interrogation, wanting information on where they can find Sonic, which is odd, considering she and Sonic have until this point never met. Speak of the devil, Sonic arrives and berrates the robots for their lack of chivalry, then proceeds to use his usual disguise-and-trick routine, defeating the bots and rescuing the distrssed damsel. Breezie, which we soon find to be the name of the strange lady, instantly wins Sonic's affection and Tails's disgust. Breezie then begins a series of sending Sonic on intentionally-dangerous fetch quests, nearly getting him killed several times in the process. Suspicious... Anyway, Sonic eventually passes the Ice Territory, and Robotnik's secret agent polar bear(Couldn't make it up if I tried) calls in to report his appearance. Speaking of secret agents, Robotnik informs his Badniks that Breezie's one. And a robot at that. Shock and surprise! Robotnik changes into his gentleman's pilot clothes as he explains his fiendish plot- To use Breezie's power to charm Sonic to distract him while he uses his new Egg-O-Matic Tunnelizer and Town Terrorizer to steal water from a resovouir and sink a nearby town. Taking off with a loud "YEEEHAAAAAAAW!"(Guess that's where the soundclip from Mean Bean Machine came from), Robotnik heads off to spread rottenness! Breezie sends Sonic off again, and throws Tails in the river before Scratch and Grounder arrive to assit her in hedgehog-hunting. They set up no less than three ridiculously complex traps, and call Robotnik- who's happily drilling away- to report in. Sonic arrives and falls for the trap hook, line, and sinker, but Breezy is overcome with emotion at Sonic's incredibly corny love poem, and frees him from the trap. In short, she tells him Robotnik's plan, and he arrives to ruin his plans at the last possible second. Story ends with Sonic receiving an equally cheesy poem from Breezie, the little traitor.

Those slowpoke sloths are the perfect bait! 4 - Slowwww Going...
Robotnik decides to attack a family of sloths, hovering overhead in an Eggmobile that's oddly remniscant of the much-later Egg Hornet. The Doctor does a barrel roll, dropping Scratch and Grounder below to deal with the speedily-challenged sloths. They sorta do that, crashing through their house without much effort, only to get picked back up by Robotnik and taken back to the fortress. This prompts Rocket, the fastest of the sloths(But still quite slow in his own right) to call Sonic for help using some bizzare telegraph device(Mobius is supposed to be futuristic, right?). Cut back to Robotnik's Fortress, where our favorite megalomaniac has invented the Subatonic Slow-Go Beam Weapon, or in layman's terms, a laser that slows things down. Of note, the beam is powered by a Mobian Mega Crystal, which Robotnik spent nine years making. The bots argue over the laser, accidentally setting it off and slowing Robotnik down. Far less interestingly, Sonic and Tails arrive to fix Sloth Manor(A rather grandiose name for a rotting treehouse), and after a bit, Scratch and Grounder arrive showering the landscape with gratuitous laser fire. After a typical chase scene in Loony Toons fashion, the robots succeed and manage to slow Sonic down. They lock him up and wait for Robotnik to arrive in a nearby cave. The bots pass the time roasting hotdogs(Despite a later episode claiming that they can't eat because, well, they're robots), and taunting Sonic. Ah, what fun! Tails arrives, grabs the gun, and threatens to use it, but Grounder rather effortlessly knocks it out of his hands... which would be great, but the crystal breaks. Nine years of effort down the drain. Tails grabs the gun again and escapes with it, then accidentally shoots Rocket(What a responsible lad), finding that the crystal breaking turned the gun into a speed-up beam. The sloths get sped up, and storm the Badniks' hideout. Sonic's freed, Robotnik shows up, he gets shot with the speed-up beam and uncontrollably flies into the horizon, shouting "I HATE THAT HEDGEHOG!" in... a higher-pitched, but not signifficantly sped-up voice. Episode over.

Got a condo made of stone-a 5 - High Stakes Sonic
We begin this episode with Smiley the shifty loneshark sending some gambling losers by bus off to do hard labor. Sonic, who has nothing better to do but lounge around by the highway, decides to find out where they're going by following one, ending up in another town with another bunch of stupid sheep who've lost everything they own, and are about to bet themselves to win it all back, when the hedgehog wins the game for them. But what's this? Smiley's not just a crook, he's one of Robotnik's secret agents! Cut to... the desert? A bunch of captured sheep are toiling away at a giant Robotnik Sphinx, while the mad Doctor himself chills out in some Egyptian pharoah outfit. Grounder arrives with the phone, and once Robotnik learns Smiley failed, decides to up the ante and launch his new Casino Night Zone to fleece those sheep. Not ones to learn their lesson, the sheep herd over to the casino and lose everything they own again. Before they're about to bet their lives, Sonic quickly un-rigs the games and the sheep win. Scratch and Grounder finally notice Sonic's, well, Sonic, and give chase. But wait! First Sonic has to drop Tails off at the casino's nursery so he'll be safe. The nursery in the casino Robotnik built. So he'll be safe. Guardian of the year, Sonic. Anyway, Sonic leads Scratch and Grounder on a wild goose chase through the Casino Night Zone, ultimately using his disguise-and-run trick again. Back at the nursery, Tails is informed his fee for staying is one million Mobiums, and being unable to pay, is sent to the management, who to no surprise is our hero, Dr. Robotnik. The good Doctor informs the now-captured Tails that he intends to use him to get his workers back. How? Well, cut to Smiley, who informs Sonic that if he wants to see his two-tailed twit again, he'll have to intentionally lose a race, resulting in Robotnik's capture of the sheep. It's Grounder vs. Sonic in a race to the top of Mt. Robotnik, and Sonic does indeed start to throw the race, until Grounder spills the mean beans and tells him where Tails is being held captive. But while Sonic's saving him, Robotnik decides to go ahead and capture the sheep anyway, and sets them to work on his monument. Sonic follows, and in an act of agrandized vandalism, carves his own face onto the sphinx, then delivers a boring little speech about a Mobius free of Robotnik. End.

6 - Sonic Breakout
Comic artist Sketch Lampoon has picked the wrong satirical target- In a truly unfunny parody of Humpty Dumpty, Lampoon's... weird animated comic thing poked fun at Dr. Robotnik. Not one to be upstaged, Robotnik throws the foolish fowl into his new prison. Sonic spends most of the episode trying to break him out, and eventually does. And that's really all there is to it. Robotnik has a pretty amusing scene, however, when he forces Lampoon to draw a comic starring him.

FISH FIGHT 7 - Trail of the Missing Tails
Robotnik's insane cousin Warpnik starts the episode by complaining about being locked in the Warp of Confusion for five years by Dr. R himself. Looking through some sort of telescope to Mobius, he spies Scratch, Grounder, and Coconuts spring another trap for Sonic. Sonic arrives, steals the chilidog bait, and sets the traps against the Badniks. Not to worry, the Badniks get revenge by kidnapping Tails and high-tailing it out of there, only to be foiled moments later so Sonic can have a reason to tell Tails the dangers of not staying put. After Dic's done shoehorning morals into the show, we see... Warpnik again! Deducing that if Robotnik wants to capture Sonic, then so does he, using it to lure his cousin to the zone where he's imprisoned. Sonic wakes up the very next morning to find Tails is missing again. Oh well, cut to Robotnik's base where the Badniks are berrated for being all incompetant(and stinking of fish). Robotnik offers us a plot coupon by segwaying into "I haven't SEEN such lunacy since I banned my crazy cousin Warpnik to the Warp of Confusion!" Sonic arrives, and Robotnik and company go to battlestations, firing everything but the kitchen sink at the pincushion hero. Finally, it turns into a conversation- "My dear Sonic, if I knew you were coming, I'd have poisoned a cake!" Sonic accuses Robotnik of kidnapping, a charge he's(this time) innocent of. Leaving the premises, Robotnik gets another plan! Sonic's so busy looking for his misplaced sidekick, that he'll be a much easier target. Robotnik and friends set out to hunt that hedgehog! Sonic leads them to a portal to the Warp of Confusion, where Warpnik has somehow managed to capture and hold Tails. Warpnik shows Sonic old stock film footage of him being banished, and rants about his plans to escape. Surprise, Robotnik arrives! "I thought I was rid of you, you fish-fondling fruitcake!" And then the two start beating each other up using fish as melee weapons. Admist the confusion, Sonic frees Tails and starts to escape, when both Robotnik and Warpnik drop what they're doing and give chase. Warpnik begins sicking his fish on Sonic and Tails, which prompts the best line of the episode from Robotnik: "YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG!" The Badniks get hit with some mystical something and turn into giant monsters. In a brief attempt to usurp Robotnik, they fail horribly and cause the entire Warp of Confusion to begin collapsing. Sonic and Tails escape, and one friendship speech later, we see Robotnik and Warpnik still slapping each other with giant tunas as the Badniks watch.

ROBOTNIK FACTOR: 8/10
Robotnik shares a tender moment with his Egg-O-Matic.

8 - Close Encounters of the Sonic Kind
Scratch and Grounder start the episode out by setting up a suction beam to trap Sonic, but instead catch the passing ship of the alien Prince of Rhombus, who has to be present at his ceremony in two hours to be crowned his planet's king. Not concerned with their crash-landing, the Prince decides to go sight-seeing. Scratch and Grounder decide to go ahead and capture him instead, but Sonic does show up, frees the Prince, and jerkishly throws the Badniks off a cliff. The Prince's assistant reveals an important plot coupon- The Prince's baby brother is planning to blow Mobius up if he's made king instead, which will definitely happen if he's late for his coronation ceremony. So they decide to gather the parts of his wrecked ship to help him travel back to Rhombus. They find nearly everything, but the pressuring canopy and nosecone are still missing. So they set out to find the two missing items. Scratch and Grounder climb all the way back up the cliff they were thrown off, and set out to get revenge! The good guys find the pressurizing canopy, and now only the nosecone remains. Oh! It's Scratch and Grounder with the suction beam. But it's aimed backwards and hits them instead, sending them into the lake below. Grounder loses his nose in the fall, much to his chargin. Could this be foreshadowing a future plot development?! We'll find out later... The heroes come across the navigational nosecone with little effort, when the Badniks show up again with the suction beam. They miss the heroes, but cause a small rock avalanche. After the confusion's over, the Prince takes Grounder's nose by mistake, only later discovering it isn't the nosecone. Uh oh! Only 25 minutes until the coronation ceremony. Sonic recognizes that the nose belongs to Grounder, and deduces they must have the nosecone. The scene switches, and lo and behold, 11 minutes into the cartoon, Robotnik finally shows up. He's monologuing how great his suction ray is as he cleans his Egg-O-Matic, which he notes is still his absolute favorite invention. Scratch calls him up, and the Doc takes off. He turns the ignition key a few times, and realizes that he forgot to have his hovercraft tuned up- Ah well, he'll do it when he gets back. Getting it to work, he heads out! Sonic confronts the Badniks, and claims they don't need the nosecone, but that Grounder's nose will suffice. Grounder gives chase to get it back, and eventually settle on a trade. In the end, Sonic runs off with the nosecone, and Scratch has fun forcing Grounder to smack his face into the suction beam. As Sonic runs along, he runs into the real star of the show, Dr. Robotnik, who has Tails caged and held at laserpoint. Incidentally, Robotnik also stole the nosecone. Robotnik, being the nice guy he is, decides to let the aliens have their nosecone if Sonic gives himself. Robotnik locks the hedgehog up and tosses the nosecone. The Prince asks Robotnik if he can take a photo of his Egg-O-Matic, and knocks a domino-like series of rocks onto it. Robotnik declares his hatred for that hedgehog, even though Sonic didn't do a thing this time. Prince heads off to his home planet, presumably becomes king, and the episode ends. Yeah.

How's THAT for family resemblance? 9 - Momma Robotnik's Birthday
This episode introduces Robotnik's dear old mama, who would become a recurring character in the series. The old battle axe storms through the forest at the foot of Robotnik's hilltop fortress, alerting the attention of Coconuts, who's standing guard at the entrance. He alerts Dr. Robotnik that "Somethin' big big big" is one the way, then their transmission is cut. It turns out the mysterious "something" is Robotnik's mother- He asks her why she left the loony bin she's supposed to be locked up in, and she answers she escaped because she wants a birthday present- The destruction of the Mobius National Park. He orders Scratch and Grounder to prepare the robot factory for the job, and one scene later, tree-destroying robots are on the prowl in the park. Sonic throws a wrench in the works as per usual, with both brute force and his disguise trickery(Don't worry, Eggman plays this game a lot in the much-later Sonic X comics). The deforestation robots are dismantled, and he runs off. Robotnik's mean old mother gets on his case for failing, and in a cloud of poison fog, he crashlands. Robotnik's down, but not out. He sends Scratch in a giant robot to loot and pillage a nearby village. Sonic, wearing nothing more than a pompadour wig, bamboozles Scratch into thinking he's on a gameshow. Grounder, who was off to the side watching but not actually helping with the destruction, joins in the fray to win a new car. Robotnik calls them up to warn them they're being tricked, but they're so excited by the prize, they ignore his call. They fall for it and get washed into the sewer by a trap, sending Mama into a rage. She decides this time she'll try to capture Sonic herself, and sets out to do so. The old lady's next seen in a field, and cons Tails into believing her son was once a kind and gentle soul who became evil due to her leaving behind his favorite stuffed toy, Fuzzy Wuzzy. Tails, taken by her sob story, heads out to Robotnik's boyhood home of Chaos City to retrieve Robotnik's Fuzzy Wuzzy. He leaves Sonic a note in the middle of nowhere, and of course, Sonic comes across it. He then heads to follow Tails's path. Along the way, Coconuts in chef's garb lures Sonic into a trap with his offer of free chilidogs. Sending a weird cauldron robot to attack Sonic, the two get into a brief scruffle. Sonic trounces him and his robot, then moves on to another trap set by Scratch and Grounder. Their trap consists of chucking a huge boulder off a cliff. They do it, Sonic sets a trampoline out, with a big "Screw you!" to the laws of physics, bounces it back up. He eventually reaches Robotnik's old abandonned house, where Tails is held captive. Momma Robotnik confronts the hedgehog, and attacks with a giant bomb and an electrified fence. Meanwhile, good ol' Ivo Robotnik joins the fray to find... Fuzzy Wuzzy? What tarts as a little teddy bear morphs into a giant two-headed beast and captures Tails. Sonic makes short work of the bear, which sends Robotnik into an episode of childhood trauma. He can't bear to see his favorite toy be destroyed, and begs Sonic to help save it from being electrocuted, which Sonic agrees to do if he promises to be good, much to Momma's anger- No son of hers is going to be good. So Fuzzy Wuzzy wishes Momma a happy birthday through song to cheer her up, but it fails. Suddenly, the nice young men in their clean white coats show up to take her away, haha. Robotnik begins crying and then realizes that, wait, that's a great thing, and celebrates that his horrible mother's been carted away so he can have some peace.
